Every college student, especially those majoring in a writing related course should be properly adept in writing an article review. It is a type of a formal writing that deals with criticizing another manuscript or article. Other similar writing is the book report and an article critique.
What is the best way to write an article review? Highly important is in understanding the subject matter of the article being reviewed. The reviewer must spend time in not only analyzing the subject matter, but also in doing research through background checks on the author himself, if possible, to better understand the reason why the author chose that specific topic.
In preparing for an article review, the writer must approach the article with a critical mind. He must be prepared to notice both the good and the negative points of the article. While the negative aspects are usually the juiciest part of the review, the writer must remember not to show too much bias if he does not want to come out as just a reviewer who is out to destroy the reputation of that article’s author.
It is therefore important to also consider and point out the components or factors that make the article worth reading. The article review should not also be full of praises even if the article is indeed a high quality piece of literature. There is no article that can truly be considered perfect. There will always be something negative about it and the reviewer is tasked to point it out and give his expert analyzes on the topic.
